Portland Jazz Workshop is proud to present the Ezra Weiss Sextet at Michelle's Pianos on Friday, May 22nd at 8pm.
This sextet just released an album called Before You Know It, which got a lot of radio play throughout the world and made a number of critics' Top 10 lists for 2014. They will be premiering a number of new compositions at this performance!
In this band, trumpeter Thomas Barber (Paul Simon, Brian Blade), alto saxophonist John Nastos (Diane Schurr, Chuck Israels), tenor saxophonist Devin Phillips (Wynton Marsalis, Los Hombres Calientes), bassist Jon Shaw (Blue Cranes, Javier Nero), and drummer Christopher Brown (Roy Hargrove, Benny Golson) join forces to bring Weiss' heartfelt and imaginative compositions to life.
The Portland-based composer and pianist Ezra Weiss has earned wide acclaim. He was listed in the 2012 and 2013 Down Beat Critics Polls and is a three-time winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award.
