This quartet is so amazing on so many different levels...go see 'em whilst they still exist in PDX. I really think this one could go a long way in the Jazz world!

I used him almost exclusively in my band when he used to reside in the NYC area, as he always brought so much knowledge and artistry to the music. And combined with his multi-instrumentalist abilities, Chris Brown is a unique talent that's not often found.

The Weary Blues: Celebrating Langston Hughes & the Harlem Renaissance

  • The Alberta Abbey 126 Northeast Alberta Street Portland, OR, 97211 United States (map)

As of February 1st, 2026, the legacy of the great Langston Hughes will be 125 years old. And given that it falls on the 1st day of Black History Month, makes it all the more appropriate to celebrate his memory and contribution to American culture in all sorts of creative ways—one of which will be an off Broadway style performance at the Alberta Abbey in Portland where award-winning poet Emmett WheatfalI will team up with an ensemble led by Christopher Brown to interpret his very first work entitled The Weary Blues.

With predictions already being made that this will be the standout event for Black History Month here in Portland, is signaling that tickets won’t last long. Also, due to the generosity of an important donor, 84 of the balcony seats have already been purchased so that young students can experience this event for free. So as you can see, you’ll want to purchase your tickets asap!
