Coast-hopping, Jazz-drumming, Chris Brown is back in town!

Brown has gained a stellar reputation as one of the bright new talents on the scene, working with a who's who of Jazz artist.

This quartet is so amazing on so many different levels...go see 'em whilst they still exist in PDX. I really think this one could go a long way in the Jazz world!

-Bob Stark. Portland, OR.

Producer/Sound Engineer Kung Fu Bakery Studio.

He is a uniquely talented performer and educator, and a man in whom I trust and for whom I hold great admiration.

-Conrad Herwig. New York, NY.

Director of Jazz Studies, Rutgers University, NJ, and 3x Grammy Nominated artist.

I used him almost exclusively in my band when he used to reside in the NYC area, as he always brought so much knowledge and artistry to the music. And combined with his multi-instrumentalist abilities, Chris Brown is a unique talent that's not often found.

The moment that so many people in both Portland and throughout the country have been waiting for is finally here. The famed 1905 Jazz club is back in action and under new management. As someone who maintained a strong weekly residency with this club throughout the first iteration of its existence, I undoubtedly have a soft spot for this venue, as it gave me a platform to further develop my brand and band sound. Not to mention, it did a fantastic job of carrying the cultural torch forward for Jazz in Portland after the closing of Jimmy Maks at the end of 2016. So while you might here of a few smaller private events that will be taking place at the club before April 19th, this date will be the official re-opening of this iconic venue to the rest of the world. And I couldn’t be more excited and honored to help kick it off!

With that said, know that this event will undoubtedly sell out. So as soon as tickets are available, you’ll want to get your right away!!!

The Christopher Brown Quartet "Late Set"

Under normal circumstances this group performs on Wednesday's at the 7 & 8:30pm time slot. But for this specific occasion, we'll be performing a "late set" starting @ 10pm. Aside from the start time, however, the main difference will be that I'll be hosting an open jam session, as there haven't been any opportunities for the community to join this particular configuration of musicians on stage in over 7 years for an event like this. Therefore, this will be a rare situation worth coming out for (especially if you're a musician).

Since there will be no sign up sheet for people interested in participating, it means that you'll have to introduce yourself to me to get up on stage if I don't already know you. And the reason being is simple. Music is a social endeavor that requires people to be social if it's to sound as good as it can.

So whether you're a musician who's interested in getting up on stage, or simply a fan of live music, we sincerely look forward to seeing you at this event!!!

Now that we’re into the Fall season, the number of opportunities to catch live music here at Amalfi’s will begin to come to a close as we move closer into late October and early November. But until then, the lingering temperatures of summer continue to make this venue a well sought after destination for live outdoor music. So again, be sure to clear your schedule and come on over to Amalfi’s to take in a breath taking view of this gorgeous venue (back-lit by a setting sun), great music, food & drinks, and always friendly patrons and staff!

This performance will absolutely be a bucket list check for me! It’s been a long time coming, and now we’re about to make it happen. Aaron has been one of the leading musical voices within Jazz for the past 20+ years. And with a resume that’s too daunting of a task to mention here, I’ll just say you won’t want to miss this powerful performance. As not only will I get the honor of finally performing with Aaron, but it’ll be alongside bassist extraordinaire Ben Williams (whose resume is equally as robust)!!! So needless to say, there’s no amount of words that can adequately convey both the gravity of this performance, as well as my excitement for it. You just have to be here!

As one of the few living legends that has a direct link to a bygone era where giants like Miles Davis, John Coletrane, Duke Ellington, etc. still roamed the earth, I have the pleasure of performing with Gary Bartz here in my home town of Portland, OR. And while this will be a reunion of sorts, as our first gig together was in San Francisco four years ago, the vibe on stage will still be like it’s the first time all over again (but kicked up a few notches). So I encourage you to take the opportunity to experience the depth of musical wisdom that can only come from a person with such depth to their legacy.

There's an inherent seductiveness that's found within people and structures that exude an air of timelessness. And like Jazz, when those people and structures are rooted by the best qualities of the past, a type of unapologetic swagger is conveyed that makes everyone stand back to take notice. And as such, there's currently a creative movement that's underway at Amalfi’s that seeks to do an exceptional job of marrying the past with the present so as to present a vision of an artistic future that we'd all be inclined to embrace.

Now that the world is begging to open back up, and in a more sustainable way, now is the time to reclaim what many forgot was so sacred. And that’s the power of in-person connections. And like I say, music is what brings people together, but it’s the quality of the conversations that keep us together. Like both Jazz and the military, all businesses have been forced to improvise, adapt, and overcome the many challenges of the last year. And now that businesses have had an opportunity to adjust accordingly, some have figured out how to offer live music as well. And so now that Botanist is offering live music on the regular, they’ve been able to separate themselves from so many other businesses in town. For better or worse, everyone knows that so much of who we are is reflective of the people we spend the most time around. In other words, our destiny will be unknowingly or intentionally influenced by everything and everyone in our immediate environment. So if you’ve always wanted to find a place where simply being in the room made you feel like you had already leveled up to some degree, then let this space scratch that itch, as there’s no telling what CEO, celebrity, or influencer you may wind up having a conversation with. So remember, it’s not just about who you know, it’s also about who knows you. And there’s no better way to help set the stage for the kind of meeting of the minds that Known Associates has already become known for than with the help of world class music, high level craft cocktails, and the right kind of environment to tie it all together.

Attending a show is one thing, but to be made better for having gone is another. And between the music, as well as the production and logistical support of Cerimon House 501 (c)(3), this event promises to accomplish the latter through the four pillars that Cerimon House stands upon, which is curiosity, creativity, community, and ceremony.

Curiosity: Questions that arise about our sense of purpose are usually identified when we’re engaged in some kind of service to others.

Creativity: With necessity being the mother of all innovation, there will always be a need for creative ways to improve how we relate to one another.

Community: No meaningful idea has ever been nurtured to widespread acceptance by one person.

Ceremony: All ceremonies are outward professions of inward conditions. And as such, a true artist will take advantage of every performance opportunity they can to assert their point of view about the fundamentals of the human condition for the benefit of the audience.

As you can see, Cerimon’s cause is OUR cause! And with this event being a double-bill with vocalist Shelly Rudolph and Tom Grant, an event such as this, with all of it’s immediate and long term benefits, is one that’s not to be MISSED! So between the COVID-19 protocols, tax-deducted benefits, gourmet pre-packaged dinner/dessert + wine, prize give-away’s, new CD releases, games (Bocci Ball, Corn Hole Toss, Croquet), access to attending this exclusive event on a 2 acre residence in Yamhill Carlton wine country, as well as the meaningful support of an organization that’s in support of artists, you can’t miss!
